Game Night More Than Just Fun

December 7th North Valley Academy Charter School's juniors and seniors hosted a Game Night. This Game Night was a huge success in the eyes of this teacher. We had over twelve gaming consoles hooked up to eight projectors and four television sets. We had eight students linked up on four different Xboxs all playing together. This after school event gave students a safe place to have fun after school for five or so hours. This event gave parents a piece of mind of the whereabouts of their children. I hope we the support of the school, the community, and others we can continue to host more game nights.
Below is a picture of the great night we had.
This picture shows four projectors with two television sets in which students were engaged with.

Becoming a better TEACHER

Becoming a better teacher is not about being stagnant in your position, but learning, growing, and chancing your methods. I think continuing to change and adapt my teaching and my curriculum will help students grow. In order to become a better teacher I understand that I need to learn and grow through professional development. The last two days I have attended a conference over Khan Academy. This Khan Academy training is the largest Khan Academy training ever to take place. I feel I am ideas and concepts to bring back to my school. I want to implement these ideas and use these concepts to give students more opportunities to succeed. Something that worries me in going forward is will my school want to go forward with me, or worse yet will my school have the resources to go forward with education. Does my school want to stay at the same point or do they want to go forward in educating students. I feel they want to go forward and I am ready to go forward with them. I want to give my students the opportunity to succeed at any time! I want to thank North Valley Academy for the opportunities to become a better teacher. Thank you Khan Academy and also thank you MTI.

Teachers and Summer Time

Many times it seems students do not realize that teachers even have a life outside of school and granted that is sometimes true, but teachers are human just like everyone else. Summer is just as busy or even more busy than during the school year for teachers. Many teachers take on part time jobs in the summer. Many teachers take classes to better prepare them for the upcoming year. Teachers are always life long learners. Teachers are continually working on their curriculum to improve it for the next batch of students. Teachers are working on their homes and on their yards. Teachers are taking trips and experiencing new places. I know what teachers are doing, they are working and playing harder than ever. My question then has to be, what are students doing?
